New Ditch—no,Chase

COur front garden needed a little something to define the space, so we added this locust railing in front of the new flower bed on the street. I had searched for an idea to make the drainage ditch a little more interesting—dare I say appealing.

My research turned up ditches that were filled with cement and stones and a few with random stones just tossed in to help drainage. I liked the idea of the ditch being able to percolate so we decided on no concrete. The ditch was dug down and filled with heavy sand. The larger smooth river stones were added and all of the spaces were filled in with three different sizes of gravel.

Mr. P said it looked so good he couldn’t call it a ditch, so out came the iPhone and Google. The best alternative, according to him, was to call it a chase—so chase it is. I am very happy with the results. What do you think?
